Meet our new game!
Hello, space adventurers!
Today marks the first of many DevLogs around our new game Eternity. We’re thrilled to share this with you, as we embark on the ambitious journey of developing our new galaxy crawler game. Strap in and prepare for launch as we reveal our overall intentions, the anticipated complexities we foresee, and the innovative solutions we’re brainstorming to overcome them.
“Each journey will present a unique tapestry of solar systems, filled with an array of celestial bodies, from habitable planets to ominous asteroid fields.”
Our Vision:
At the heart of our game is the spirit of exploration and discovery. We want our players to feel like intrepid space explorers, navigating through the vast expanse of procedurally generated galaxies. Each journey will present a unique tapestry of solar systems, filled with an array of celestial bodies, from habitable planets to ominous asteroid fields.
By blending space exploration with dungeon crawler mechanics, we aim to provide an engaging gameplay loop. The players will explore one system at a time, encounter challenges, gather resources, and make strategic decisions before jumping to the next system through a jump gate. On every fresh run, a new set of solar systems is generated, offering a different journey and ensuring no two playthroughs are alike.
Anticipated Challenges:
Despite our excitement, we understand the complexities ahead. Procedural generation, while powerful, is challenging to perfect. We’re not just creating solar systems– we’re breathing life into them. Balancing randomness with a sense of purpose and progression is a delicate task. We want each new system to feel fresh and exciting, yet still offer a coherent and engaging experience that satisfies our players’ expectations.
Further, developing an intuitive UI and ensuring seamless navigation between solar systems and jump gates is another anticipated challenge. We want the player’s experience to be immersive, not bogged down with clunky mechanics or confusing interfaces.
Innovative Solutions:
We’re already exploring solutions to these challenges. For procedural generation, we’re working on an algorithm that ensures diversity while maintaining logical consistency. We’re creating rules for the generation process that take into account the astrophysics involved in the creation of solar systems, influencing the characteristics of its celestial bodies. This approach allows us to inject a touch of realism into our game’s universe, creating a meaningful and immersive experience for players.
For UI and navigation, we’re designing with a minimalistic yet informative approach in mind. The aim is to present essential information without cluttering the view, helping players make informed decisions without feeling overwhelmed.
We’re also excited about implementing a strategic fleet management system. Players will have the ability to run every detail about their fleet, but we are thinking beyond formation and layout, when we mean “manage”, we mean it as in individual ship operations, logistics, and politics. Imagine the fleet as a city in space and our game handles each ship as a building. We believe that this offers another layer of strategic depth to the gameplay. This system will present its own challenges, but we’re excited about the tactical options it opens up.
At this point, it is important to clarify that, while the original genesis of this game started around the concept of a dungeon crawler in space and we dubbed it a “galaxy crawler”, in due truth it is more like a “solar system crawler”. If we can convey that experience, then we have been a bit successful already 🙂
Embarking on this project is as exhilarating as it is daunting, but we are passionate and committed to bringing this unique gaming experience to life. We appreciate your support and feedback as we navigate this venture. Keep an eye on our DevLogs for more insights into our process and progress. Here’s to the incredible journey ahead!
So long, space voyagers,
The Dev Team
